Why Haven't You Written? If you sent mail to us last summer or fall, and haven't heard back from us, your letter may be stuck in the mail. ELPAC, like many organizations in Washington, D.C., gets some of its mail through the Brentwood facility near Capitol Hill. The Brentwood facility also serves Congress and many government agencies. As you may have heard, this facility has been closed for anthrax decontamination since October. As the anthrax crisis grew worse, medical advisers counseled us to have ELPAC personnel who handled mail which traveled through the Brentwood post office use antibiotics, just as a precaution. We have done so and have all been perfectly healthy since then. This problem does NOT affect our outgoing mail to you. Our outgoing mail is generally processed in Virginia and Michigan, so the Brentwood problems have NOT contaminated our mail to you. Although we don't know for sure, however, we believe that some of our mail has been trapped in the closed facility. This is not the Postal Service's fault; they have been trying very hard to deliver our mail. If, however, you sent us mail last summer or fall, and haven't heard back from us since, it may be because we haven't received your mail yet. |
