Yahrzeit Memorial Display
National Museum of American Jewish Military History

The National Museum of American Jewish Military History in Washington DC holds one of the most unique Alpha Five applications ever. Two computers, sitting side by side in a beautiful cabinet housing 21" monitors show a continously-running display of Jewish veterans and others on the anniversary of their death (their Yahrzeit). The screens are coordinated with Xbasic on a Windows 95 network. The memorial consists of 3 opening screens, then a presentation of people whose Yahrzeit is on the current (Jewish calendar) day. Each memorial is displayed for 20 seconds before moving on to the next. Either screen can be interrupted by museum visitors to look up a particular memorial. Additional Xbasic procedures insure that the side-by-side memorials automatically resume their synchronized displays.
